Omg I haven't posted in way too long and almost all of my content is down due to server changes! That and I am currently on my honeymoon in Thailand with my lovely wife, Amythia. We've been to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat and eat happy pizza, Chiang Mai to visit the highest point in Thailand and see all the beautiful waterfalls, as well as partying with locals in Bangkok at the Chang Beer stage in front of Central World. Everything has seemed to return to normal since the volatile period I witnessed at the beginning of the year here, I think "everything will be ok" as read on the side of Central World where fire damage was suffered.

Also I've managed to start a Sound Cloud account finally and have loaded two mixes up there for you to enjoy. The first one is a new one exploring the new phenomenon of bass music that is sweeping the world more and more everyday. Finally got around to doing a new mix, this is a selection of songs that reflects both a love of techno and a longing to be back in Berlin. Didn't make it to ILT2009, but that doesn't mean we're not still just as in love with the techno as ever. We've even got some ideas to bring that which inspires us so much to new audiences here in Calgary. For now though please enjoy this mix.

You probably already knew that, but have you watched this video yet? I loved it too much to not share it. If ever there was a perfect progression for two artists as amazing as Modeselektor & Apparat to take next this would have to be it. My only regret is not being on it enough to go see them at Mutek in Montreal this year.
In other new we're getting ready for Shambhala 2009, InOrderToDanse is on the line up for Friday night 5:30am, or Saturday morning more accurately. I imagine songs like this as the sun is rising, hope to see you there.

Romances Remembered

This last weekend was more intense then I would have expected, it started Thursday at The Amsterdam Rhino, which is sadly not in Amsterdam (Thanks for reminding me Nina). However, despite that it was a long weekend and with everyone having friday off throngs of people showed. We couldn't get a break in all night, so it was bomb dropping time at it's best. Friday & Saturday night I put another 10 hours of turntablism in at Stampede Casino to a loyal following of gamblers, this human jukebox takes 20s. Then Sunday night was our Illuminaughty Secret Society Session at Dickens Pub, this is where I had to pull a transformation from pop beats & club shwag to PVC Pants & Industrial classics. 18 hours in total, truly I am more machine than man, however my back would bed to differ.

So alot of content is down, but we're getting things back up and running. I <3 Techno was amazing as it is every year, spent some time in Amsterdam, seemed like a good time to go since they're talking about changing the red light district and closing alot of coffee shops. Once again the only sets to really make a impression on me were the live acts, didn't even feel Justice really compared with last year which was live I believe.
We got a New Years Eve party happening at the SpeakEasy, you can see what that's all about over at newkinkyeve.com. Check it out if you're feeling adventurous.
2009 will have more events from the Crimson Events, starting February 15 with Illuminaughty.

Freeland & Crimson

Can't believe it took me this long but it's time for a update, better late than never.
Especially since we got some awesome shows coming up this weekend that I basically have to rant about. First up is Adam Freeland founder of the Marine Parade record label. I remember first hearing about Freeland on whitelabel remixes of grunge rock tracks. He's evolved with the times though changing his sound to meet the demand of today's dancefloors. My fondest moment of Freeland was hearing Tool dropped in the Forest at Shambhala last year, so it's exciting to think about what he'll have in store for us June 28th @ The Polish Hall. Arlen, Robbie C, & I will be warming things up early in the evening so don't miss out if you're out here in Cowtown.

The following evening In Order To Danse is very proud to present a night like none other, we're calling it Crimson. The premise is this, "Art and Fashion copulate with BDSM and play". Performers include Fake Mustache, Belle Desir, Visha Loo and Alice, and the Calgary Gods Girls (Amythia, Eddie, Lacey, Livia, and Marla from godsgirls.com)
Music by Dalek Sec, In Order To Danse, and Vi An.
Fashion designers include Demonika Clothing, DustedRose Designs, and Krystal Mowat.
Expect to see contortion, rope bondage suspension, belly dancing, fetish/burlesque performance, a performance from Miss Demeanor, sploshing (crimson jello of course), original fetish videos, prizes, wearable art, clothing booth, & drag kings.

We're back from our visit to Berlin, with a mini-mix and memories of I Love Techno in Ghent. While in Berlin we took our drinking to the streets with our friends The Operator & Emmett. Later in the week we did some clubbing @ The Watergate, a minimal club with a riverside view, John Selway was playing, he's always on point. The next day we were off to Brussels for I Love Techno. Justice stole the show with which may have been their first live set, god I hope it was recorded. But we managed to catch Klaxons, Goose, Simian Mobile Disco, Trentmoller, Stephan Bodzin, Alter Ego, & holy fuck Erol Alken! He played before Justice & totally destroyed the dancefloor again & again with things like his intro which was a fresh take on Micheal Jackon's Thriller I believe. He also played Brodinksi's remix of The Shoes which is included in this mini-mix we dropped at a Ping Pong club in East Berlin called Dr.Pong.
Got some shows confirmed that I'm excited about, little party for some peeps that have a birthday around now @ Soda. this Thursday. A Old Scotsmen Ball this Saturday, and In Order To Danse has just been confirmed for New Years Eve @ The Ship & Anchor.

Calgary is getting a sweet sweet dose of some killer acts from overseas this month. I'm getting super excited because we really don't get to see things this cool very often. In addition to the Boys Noize visit we also get to check out the ParisTerrorClub tour this Saturday at The Hifi Club as well. All this wicked music is a nice warmup to November because I'll actually be able to attend I Love Techno this year. Sorry no posts in about a month, but this should get things going for the summer/festival season. My man Arlen is out from Montreal to join us in welcoming Swayzak from Britain this Tuesday. We got Boombox coming up on July 7th next Saturday as well as a visit from Tipper August 3rd.

February is shaping up pretty nicely after a wild night last friday @ I Love Techno. It was our 5th annual and we have sets from Dj Anx as well as the Sweet Zombie Jesus Mix, they'll be up on here asap. But until then I've got a sample from my playlist for the Glitch Mob show.

The track is a collaboration between Modeselektor & Apparat, it came from this compilation disc. I'd like to see these guys do a album together especially since I still can't get enough of Modeselektor's Hello Mom! album.

I've been spending alot of time cruising for old 90s danse hits. Still missing a few of my choice favorites like Felix's Don't You Want Me. Jomanda does the vocals, I loved this tune growing up. But if I had to pick one song that is solely responsible for starting my obsession with electronic music it would have to be Snap's number #1 Hit.

I dropped this on NYE, it's really heart warming to see people loving the old rave sounds again. Being 7 years into the 2000s the 90s nostalgic value is rising and it couldn't have come sooner for me.

It's been exactly 10 years since this hit graced dance music and it still rocks the floor like no other. Armand Van Helden delivered the best mix of the track, no doubt.

Revenge of the Phantom

So everyone's waiting for Justice's new full-length to drop, I hear it's targeted for spring. They gave us a taste of "Phantom" awhile back, it was only a 2:30 min sample, but now there's a full myspace rip available and it sounds amazing (other than the bit rate).

The sample comes from a Dario Argento horror movie, a band called Goblin did the music for it.

Recently this re-edit of Phantom was released on Skull Juice. It's interesting to see remixes of tracks before their actual release but I'm really not complaining. It combines elements from both of the above tracks and how they've been brought together is commendable.

Here's a sampling of the gems that I've been pulling off vinyl. Misjah's remix of Bekkou was one of those techno tracks that has really stood the test of time for me. First released in 1998 on X-trax I picked up the prolekult pressing in 1999 and I've been loving it ever since.
I acquired the Paul Jacobs number from a old dj buddy some time ago when he was selling off his records for some reputable cause. I guess Ebay would be my suggestion for acquiring copies of these dance floor rockers. I'll miss you when you're gone vinyl.

From the looks of it I'm about half way through the vinyl I wanted to rip and my hard drive is feeling the pressure. It's well worth having the 2000+ songs coming with me to every gig now though. Going to test it out live for the first time tonight so wish me luck.
